Year 12 Visit to UEA

3 Mar 23

Year 12 students travelled to the University of East Anglia (UEA) last week, an experience that assists the transition from School to University. Isla reported on the visit, explaining why it’s an important part of Year 12 at School.

Year 12’s Isla:
For many year 12 students, the prospect of leaving home and going to university has begun to emerge on the horizon in an exciting yet slightly intimidating way. Our trip to the University of East Anglia (UEA) was an eye-opening experience which helped us to gage an on-campus atmosphere in a way that made the idea of the transition from School to uni much more comforting.

We had the opportunity to visit various parts of the campus such as lecture theatres, the library, the sports facilities, the student accommodation and, best of all, a variety of decent student cafes at lunch time! We also heard first hand from our student guides about the uni experience, who encouraged us by explaining the increase of freedom they had compared to School. They also talked about the variety of clubs and societies there were at the uni and spoke about day-to-day student life and what student socialising was like. We also heard first-hand what universities like UEA are looking for in a student in terms of UCAS and personal statements. Overall, it was an encouraging trip and made the process of applying and going off to university feel a lot less daunting.
