A dozen politically aspirational Year 12 students made their way to Westminster on Tuesday, taking a tour of the Houses of Parliament, with all its rich history.
The highlight was sitting in the Commons gallery, having the opportunity to witness the debate on the UK government’s position on the conflict in Gaza. This was followed by a somewhat less intense atmosphere of the Lords discussing preferential steel contracts in Wales.
Students continued their day by engaging in their own mock Commons debate on the legalisation of cannabis, the latter stages of which we were joined by our MP Dr Therese Coffey. Dr Coffey then spoke to students, talking a little about herself, and her role before fielding questions from everyone.
It really was an inspiring and interesting day for everyone.
