Woodbridge School Invited to Celebrate Woodbridge Library’s Children’s Area Refurbishment

1 Mar 24

Woodbridge School’s own PAWS-itivity Library Labrador ‘Atticus’ has been on display at Woodbridge Library this week, in attendance to celebrate and mark the opening of their new children’s library. ‘Atticus’ was joined by a number of other Library Labradors in celebration of this extraordinary donation to fund such a project; with sculptures loaned to the library by a number of local organisations, businesses and individuals from the 48 sculptures designed, created and auctioned as part of Suffolk Libraries’ fundraising campaign last year. You can read more about that campaign here.

Friends of Woodbridge Library and the Woodbridge Library team themselves recently raised over £20,000 to fund the refurbishment through the generosity of customers and loyal donors; a wonderfully generous amount donated by members of the wider community. The new and improved children’s library includes a new carpet, a shelving unit with a reading nook for children to explore, together with new cupboards, picture book boxes, sofas and a picture book tunnel. One of the busiest parts of the library, it’s a place where children of all ages and their parents can come to look for books and take part in regular activities.

Commenting on the celebrations, Shona Norman, Head of Woodbridge School said,

“Of course we were delighted to loan ‘Atticus’ to Woodbridge Library for this absolutely fantastic occasion – I was thrilled to hear that such a large amount had been raised and was being spent on refurbishments, particularly as children from our School are frequent visitors who enjoy spending time at the library as well as reading and loaning books.  Ensuring children have access to books and that reading is part of their lives is essential; reading is not only integral to education but contributes to enjoyment and fulfilment too.  We’re extremely proud and truly honoured to have been asked to be part of this event.”

Helen Scrivener, Executive Library Manager for Woodbridge Library said,

“We love our new vibrant and colourful children’s area and have already received some wonderful feedback from families who have enjoyed the space so far. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to making this happen and making our library an even more popular destination.”
