137 pupils took part in the UK Linguistics Olympiad in School before half-term – and the results are in!
This national competition tests logical thinking and sensitivity towards language, and presents contestants with increasingly difficult challenges. Nationally, nearly 5,000 pupils entered the UKLO this year, so there was strong competition for our students.
Woodbridge has followed up on last year’s success by winning 38 awards. Year 12’s Oliver L, entering the hardest Advanced Level, not only won Gold but, as one of the top 5% in the country, has been invited to enter Round Two, from which the International Olympiad squad is chosen. This is a tremendous achievement, given that 1,700 candidates entered the Advanced Level competition.
Other notable successes include Year 11’s Marina, Charlotte and Violetta who won Bronze in both the Intermediate category and the Advanced Team category, competing a year up.
Year 7’s Jack, Xan, Seth and Pranav, who were entering UKLO for the first time, won Silver in the Breakthrough (Level 1) challenge, while Year 9’s Jack, Jasper, Sam and Joe won Silver and narrowly missed out on Gold in the Foundation (Level 2) challenge.
Very well done to all contestants who so clearly enjoyed the chance to work on language puzzles.
