U16s Rugby Report

17 Sep 21

Despite wall-to-wall sunshine during training, accompanied by incredibly hard ground, match day for our U16s Rugby saw torrential rain in complete contrast!  As staff and students travelled and got closer and closer to Ely, the rain got heavier and heavier.  But the weather didn’t stop us having a great day and a great first match against Kings Ely.

Woodbridge were completely and utterly up for the challenge of their first match, with a dogged defence from the start.  Moments of quick hands and fast feet saw our team attack full of energy, but it was a fierce match which resulted in a half time score of 5 – 0 to Kings Ely.

Unfortunately the second half saw an onslaught of Kings Ely attacks, and although the Woodbridge defence held on brilliantly, we were beaten a number of times as the team’s exhaustion from defending began to show. Despite their tiredness, the team rallied and began to come back and hold their own again in the last ten minutes, where Sam managed to get on the team sheet.  Man of the match and Captain Ed was also fantastic in both attack and defence, but it was truly a whole team effort, well done to everyone that played.
