Woodbridge School Wins Almost a Third of the Medals at Suffolk Schools Cross Country Final Trial
Woodbridge School has once again been privileged to host another Cross Country event in our grounds, taking advantage of our superb Cross Country course. Last week saw the Suffolk Schools Cross Country Final Trials take place in near freezing conditions – but that didn’t seem to affect anyone taking part and it was an exciting event to say the least! Our report hold details of the day, the runners and the results.
Suffolk Schools Cross Country Final Trial Report
On Thursday 11 January 2024, Woodbridge School were proud hosts of the final Suffolk Schools Cross Country trial for this winter. The top 100 athletes in Suffolk in each age group had qualified to compete at this trial.
A very successful day for Woodbridge School athletes with around 40 (30 in 2023) having qualified to compete on their home course, even though a few were unable to race due to illness.
Incredibly seven (four in 2023) athletes won individual medals and hopefully some 20 are in contention for selection for Anglian Schools, to be announced later this week; incredibly those statistics means that Woodbridge School won almost 30% of all medals, with some 80 schools having entered the competition.
A huge well done to every athlete that took part, thank you to those responsible for organising and managing the event (including our own team of willing volunteer staff members who we just couldn’t manage these events without!) and good luck to those going on to race at Anglian Schools.

After the February race, and including those race results, Suffolk Schools will announce reduced teams of eight (only for Juniors, Inters and Seniors – so students in Year 8 and above) to compete at English Schools in Pontefract, West Yorkshire in March.
