Following his selection, as one of only 36 Scouts from Suffolk, to attend the 25th World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023, Year 9’s Sam B begins his fundraising efforts with a sweet sale next Thursday 17 February at 10.40am in the Quad. Looking to raise £3,995 in order to secure his place as well as contribute towards funding places for Scouts from developing countries, this will be the first of a number of fundraising events set to take place including a trail run which is set to take place 20th March, a quiz, a raffle, and a jam and marmalade sale to name but a few. Sam has also recently featured on Suffolk Radio’s Leslie Dolphin show talking about his trip of a lifetime.
The World Scout Jamboree takes place in Saemangeum Buan-gun South Korea between 1 and 12 August 2023, and Sam is hopeful that he will also have the opportunity to visit other parts of South Korea on his trip. Talking about the jamboree Sam said, “In order to be selected I had to firstly apply via email before attending a selection day which involved team building tasks and survival activities such as fire lighting.” He continued, “Even though the selection day took place in November I had to wait until the end of January before I heard if I’d been successful or not – I was beside myself with excitement when I got the news that I was in deed going to have the chance to go!”
Be sure to look out for Sam and his fundraising events, all contributions and donations will be very gratefully received and we look forward to confirming when he’s met his target and what that’s involved along the way – as well as hearing all about the jamboree in 2023. Good luck Sam!
