Last Thursday the School’s 1st XV Rugby team had their first away fixture for almost two years. Playing against local rivals, Framlingham College, the team played well in their first round of the National Cup competition. Last week’s glorious sun shone on our team and supportive crowd, and it was a great day to kick start our season.
The first half was anyone’s game to be honest, with both sides making great territory with carries from Vice Captain Tom and Jack. But we were met with a strong defence through crunching tackles, particularly Year 13’s Olly and George. The hosts managed to find a way through our defence unfortunately, leading to a half-time score of 14-0.
The second half saw our team chalking up our first points of the season, with two tries from Year 13’s John, converted by our very own Head Boy Mak. But unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough as the game remained just out of our reach, as Framlingham took the game with a 24 – 14 win. It was a great effort by those from both teams, and thoroughly enjoyable to watch and play. Special mention to Year 11’s Fazil voted our player’s Man Of The Match; Fazil had a great first game and is already proving to be quite an asset for the School team.
