Netball Tournaments and Matches Galore for Woodbridge

28 Jan 22

The netball continued to be played thick and fast this week, details of matches can be found in the match reports below:

U12B netball tournament Chantry Academy

The U12B team attended a netball tournament at Chantry Academy, with the girls playing against three teams: RHS B and C and Hadleigh.  Working well together on court, Romily found her talent at GA, scoring some very pleasing shots it has to be said.  In the circle she was supported by Emilia who showed excellent composure throughout the match.

Key to linking up the play in centre court for the majority of time, Sophie also had a turn at shooting – with success!  In defence Honor and Violet showed great determination, only letting one goal in the entire tournament, while mid- court saw Emma, Chloe and Grace working hard in attack, sending the ball into the circle effectively and accurately. It was wonderful to see the amount of interceptions the girls made throughout the tournament and a real pleasure to watch.

The second round of the tournament had to be played the following day (due to Covid restrictions) and Woodbridge won 7-0 against Hadleigh, 3-1 against RHS B team and 8-0 against RHS C team.  When the results came through at the end of the second tournament Woodbridge were declared top of the table – an absolutely excellent result!

U12B Woodbridge v RHS (away) 10-6

Continuing their excellent netballing performance, the U12B team played away at RHS where the girls were playing an amalgamation of the teams they’d met in the tournament; the combination was considerably harder!

Having to work hard against a taller and quicker team, a first quarter of panic ended 3-2 to Woodbridge, followed by a second half which saw plenty of play but no additional goals for either team.

The third quarter saw Woodbridge pull away to 6 goals, but RHS also managed to score twice.

In the final quarter Woodbridge settled into their game winning 10-6, with shooters Romilly and a very calm and composed Emilia.  Mid-court saw Sophie, Grace, Emma, Chloe and Esme work hard cutting in front of their players to receive the ball while at the same time our defence, Honor, Violet and Esmee made sure the RHS players did not find shooting easy at all, managing to intercept multiple passes.

Another very pleasing performance, with Emilia taking player of the match.  Well done girls!

U15A Woodbridge v East Bergholt 48-6

The girls’ U15A team played their second netball match of the season against East Bergholt.  Woodbridge played inside which allowed the girls to play a much quicker and athletic match.

In the first quarter Woodbridge pulled ahead by 12 goals, both Charlottes took turns to put up their shots!

The second quarter involved the same combination leading to a score line of 25-1 thanks to some absolutely excellent defending and turnover play.  The team was then mixed up and Skyla came into the circle with the taller Charlotte; between them they scored another 12 goals!

Further down the court, key players in the middle third included Marina, Nancy, Issy and Amelie – the girls were being asked to focus on the build-up of their play.  Working hard together they provided options going down the court and in the final quarter the girls mixed things up further with Nancy and Izzy in the circle and the centre court being a random mix of other positions.

All credit to Nancy and Izzy, they maintained the pressure scoring another 11 goals.  Woodbridge walked away with an incredible 48-6 win and Charlotte was awarded player of the match.  Well done everyone!
