During the Easter Holidays I was part of an NCO main orchestra course for nine days at Port Regis school in Dorset. We were conducted by Howard Williams and our low brass section was tutored by the amazing David Whitson. Our final concert was at Colston Hall, Bristol. For the foyer concert our low brass section performed three jazz quintets and the whole brass section played ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’. For the main concert we performed Elgar’s ‘Cockaigne’ which was my favourite piece of the concert. We then played Poulene’s Gloria with Bristal Choral Society. It was an amazing experience to play with such a large choir. After that we played Enescu’s Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 and finally Ravel’s Bolero. Overall it was a fantastic week even with so little for the tuba to play!
