Telling the story of true love ripped apart by bitter divisions, rehearsals for our Sixth Form performance of Romeo and Juliet are well underway. Performed in our Seckford Theatre on Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 November, students will share their performance of the most famous story of love at first sight.
Preparing for any performance, choreography is an important part of rehearsals, and former student Kath Clements will be in School working with the cast of Romeo and Juliet.
OW Kath, now a Primary School Teacher, visits School regularly in her role as a Creative Movement Director/Practitioner, she has worked on many productions including The Wizard of Oz and Delicieux (which was performed at the Edinburgh Fringe). Depending on the project students are working on, she choreographs specific movement in order to teach students as well as facilitating workshops where they can be inspired to create movement motifs, with Kath guiding them through the development process.
Supporting GCSE and A level students in particular she’s able to work collaboratively with them teaching the choreographic process which can then be applied to their practical studies and work; they can borrow or adapt motifs/sections of movements.
Looking ahead to Romeo and Juliet she commented, “I’m looking forward to working with students on this year’s production as it embodies a contemporary feel with many technological elements, mature themes and ambitious choreographic moments. It’s always a pleasure to return to School and be part of the Drama productions, something I was lucky enough to take part in as a student.”
Tickets for Romeo and Juliet will be available from Seckford Theatre | Romeo & Juliet 23 – 24 November – Seckford Theatre and we look forward to reporting on rehearsals and hearing from students taking part as we move towards performance dates.
