Our U16 hockey team had a great day at the East Regional Qualifiers this week, representing Suffolk after winning the cup earlier in the season. The team started slowly and nervously in their first match, struggling to maintain enough possession to build momentum and pressure.
Defensively they were solid with GK, Year 11’s Bash, being on top form, not only in this game, but all day! But we had to settle for a 1-0 loss in this match.
The second match followed soon after and more attacking promise was on show. Frustratingly the opposition scored a cracking goal from a broken down penalty corner and Woodbridge had to settle again for a 1-0 loss.
Now we knew what we were doing as a group and how we wanted to play, we just had to put this process into action. The next three pool games saw Woodbridge move the ball with confidence around the back, through the midfield and feeding the forwards – and so it was no surprise when the goals started to flow. Three matches won on the trot, both with a 2-0 scoreline.
Well done to our goal scorers on the day, Year 11’s Luca and Alfie who scored two goals each, and also to Year 10’s Dylan and Will M . Wonderful progress was made during the day and lots learned.
Leadership, teamwork, support, personal responsibility and resilience stand out and our players did us proud.
