Unfortunately, the score does not reflect how well the girls played in this tough match (especially against a strong U16 team), and they should be congratulated on their continued determination and teamwork during the game. Although Wymondham’s centre half scored within the first 25 seconds of the game with a massive hit from the top of the circle, our girls never let their heads go down and this was evident in how well they pressurised their opponents in the 2nd half.
Emma Jarvis played exceptionally well as goal keeper, especially as this was her first ever match in goal, and the other 10 players (as we had no reserves) fought tirelessly for every ball. Ella Spice took an almighty whack on her big toe but soldiered on and continued to play – even though she was in a great deal of pain. Superb defending by Tate Turnbull, Frances Poulter and Alice Pertwee enabled us to gain possession of the ball, but although great interceptions were made in our defending circle, we unfortunately sometimes placed the ball back onto the sticks of our opponents, instead of out to the wings, giving them the opportunity to score. A great team effort – which was a real pleasure to umpire!
Final score: Wymondham 9 – Woodbridge 0
