Girl’s 1st XI Cricket, Woodbridge vs St Joseph’s

3 May 24

Playing against St Jo’s, Woodbridge 1st XI Girls Cricket team won their game by seven wickets last weekend – a great start to their season.

Woodbridge won the toss and elected to bowl first in very wet and cold conditions; this proved a critical choice, and our opening bowlers of year 10’s Lily and Year 9’s Frankie bowled extremely well, restricting St Jo’s excellent opening pair.

Just as St Jo’s started to get going, Year 9’s Amelie took a great caught and bowled to open the door.  This was followed by an outstanding catch by Frankie at mid-wicket to get their top batter and captain out, followed by another outstanding wicket keeping catch by Year 12’s Violetta.

The next few bowlers then bowled an excellent line and length, and after having the opposition at 80 for 2, we then restricted them to 96 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.  Year 12’s Charlotte ended up with 2 for 7, Year 9’s Rosa 1 for 5, Lily 1 for 18 off 4 overs, and Frankie, 1 for 19 off 4 overs.

We opened our innings with Violetta and Charlotte.  They did a super job seeing out the opening bowler, who bowled an excellent line and length.  This set up the next three batters of Year 11’s Bonnie, Amelie and Lily to come in and bat sensibly, taking the runs on offer.

We surpassed their score in the 15th over, 3 wickets down, with Amelie on 29 not out and Lily on 11 not out. Amelie’s knock must be mentioned for the power, yet control, she played with.

A great start to the season and the team must be congratulated on their efforts on such a cold and wet day. A big thank you to those that came but didn’t end up having a bat or bowl due to the nature of the game and the way we batted and bowled.
