The weather hasn’t been kind to athletics so far this term. The Year 8 and 9 South Suffolk League meetings were both cancelled because of the rain. However, on Thursday 16 May our Junior and Inter teams spent a day in the rain at Bury St Edmunds for the English Schools Track and Field Cup.
Our athletes were amazing coping with the relentless rain and just getting on with their events; with the exception of the high jumpers, hurdlers and triple jumpers whose events had to be cancelled.
The athletes’ perseverance was rewarded with a win for both the Junior teams and second place for the Inter teams, making Woodbridge School the most successful school there.
The Junior girls and Junior boys go through to the regional round in Chelmsford on Tuesday 11 June.
In the track and field cup everyone has to do two events (one track and one field). The team is made up of twelve/fourteen students who have to cover all events between them, scoring points for their distances and times. The Junior boys and Junior girls are a mix of Year 7 and 8, the Inter boys and Inter girls are a mix of Year 9 and 10.
Top scorers of the day were Year 10’s Charlie P, Ernest, Sam L and Huw B, Year 9’s Romilly, Year 8’s Digby, Oscar W and Ella B, and Year 7’s Alexandra, Dexter and India J.
Thank you to those parents who braved the rain to support the teams!
We wish the teams good luck in their next round.
