34 Year 10 students took part in their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition training weekend last week, which took place in the local area.
Enjoying the wonderful weather we had, on Saturday they took part in practical navigation, emergency procedures, first aid and route planning. Once they’d completed this part of the day they then travelled to their campsites, two groups of students staying at each location with staff.
More training on camp craft including pitching tents and how to use stoves preceded a pleasant night camping under the stars, searching for the reported Northern Lights that we were aware had been seen across the country (and the world) that weekend!
On Sunday, after breakfast together, students walked back to School taking different routes and carrying all of their expedition equipment – in what became an incredibly warm day in the sun.
Mistakes were made with navigation and kit, acknowledged and learned from, all part of this process ahead of their two-day qualifying expedition in June.
Congratulations to everyone that took part including: Liya, Benjamin, Millie, Lyrah, Samuel, Margot, Page, Arthur, Ernest, William, Alex, Aurelia, Benjamin, Stephanie, Scarlett, Kerem, Rowan, Valentina, Lily, Beatrice, Laura, Charlotte, Theodore, Henry, Isobel, Freya, Margot, Edward, Meda, Beatrix, Tom, Arlo and Eloise.
