Bury St Edmunds Chess Congress
Congratulations to R Kent, M Pommier, G Pommier and T Pommier who took part in the Bury St Edmunds chess congress on Sunday 18 February.
R Kent won the Under 9 section with 6 out of 6, whilst T Pommier came second equal with 4 out of 6.
In the Under 11 section G Pommier finished with 4 out of 6, equal second place girl and M Pommier got 2.5/6.
Their combined score of 16.5/24 was enough for The Abbey to win the overall schools prize. Results are below:
Woodbridge School: 16.5 pts
King’s Cambridge: 13.0 pts
St Edmund’s ‘A’: 12.0 pts
St Edmund’s ‘B’: 11.5 pts
Perse, Cambridge: 9.0 pts
Haslingfield Primary: 3.5 pts
Worth bearing in mind that if you picked the best performances from all the other teams and rolled them into one team, Woodbridge would still have won.
R Kent also seems to have jointly won the ‘Bury Area Chess Trophy’ by virtue of getting 6/6, shared with 2 other children who also got 6/6 in other sections. |
