Local Primary Schools Visit Woodbridge for Primary Enrichment

23 Apr 24

Primary Enrichment continues at Woodbridge School, as children from other primary schools in the local area, including our own Prep School, visit our community to spend time exploring a variety of workshops, aimed at developing new skills as well as providing enrichment through experience.

Focusing on curriculum subjects in a fun and interactive way, strengthening and broadening children’s knowledge and awareness of the world, our School’s Primary Enrichment Programme takes place throughout the academic year.

Under the supervision of our Assistant Head Academic and Primary Enrichment Co-ordinator Miss Carretta, workshops are tailored to those year groups attending, stimulating interest and curiosity in terms of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM). Often with visitors and presenters from different parts of the education community, it’s a wonderful opportunity not only to learn and discover more, but to meet other children, including those in our community here at Woodbridge School.

Over 130 Children from a variety of different Years at Eyke and Kyson Primary school as well as our own Prep School had the opportunity to meet and hear from our guest speaker Paul Sirius of Sirius Astronomy in School during British Science Week at the beginning of March as they took a Journey into Space. Talking about the potential dangers of space, from what happens if you aren’t wearing your spacesuit correctly, or your capsule springs a leak to being hit by a meteor and burning up on re-entry, children were captivated! Learning about the science of how rockets get into space, how spacesuits keep you alive and other potential disasters you might face, children were also extremely lucky having the opportunity to try on a real space suit for themselves!

From space to religion. Children travelled to Woodbridge School to take part in a workshop exploring Hinduism and Judaism, focusing on light and its special meaning, as well as the message it spreads across the world. 23 children from Years 3 and 4 from Eyke Primary school and 15 from Mellis Primary School joined us to learn more about the Celebration of the Festival of Light, making their own Hanukkah Dreidel and Hindu Diya lamp which they were able to take home with them. Children were able to reflect on what light meant to them and the importance of the message of hope in the modern world.

Our most recent Primary Enrichment workshop saw over 130 children from Eyke, St Mary’s, Kyson and Woodbridge Primary schools come into School for our Multi Skills Tournament at the end of March. Having the opportunity to take part in a variety of different sporting activities from agility to balance, children learned about and developed their co-ordination – and had a lot of fun! The event was organised and managed by our own School’s Y11 Sports Leaders plus Havannah and Amelia Y12, a superb opportunity for them to demonstrate their leadership skills and for children to meet members of our School community.

As we return from the Easter break, we now look forward to Trinity term at Woodbridge School, with further opportunities for children from local primary schools to participate in future Primary Enrichment workshops. From The Sound of Science and Combined Cadet Force, to Geography Field Studies and our Japanese and French Language workshops, there’s a variety of different and exciting workshops on offer and we look forward to welcoming children from our local community into School.
